While the official date of the next Central Committee meeting has not yet been made public, a group of residents submitted a petition to the Island Council registrar, titled, “Make Saba Quiet Enough to be Enjoyed by Everyone.” Mark Johnson submitted the petition together with a letter stating the purpose of “seeking an amicable solution to reducing the noise levels currently experienced by residents of Saba from music emanating from cars, personal residences, commercial establishments and shooting off of fireworks.” The residents who signed the petition seek “a succinct procedure by which individuals can alert an indentified designated agency of any activity outside the parameters of the ordinance.”
The stated goal of the petition is “to provide a harmonious environment for the residents and business owners on Saba and an inviting and appealing locale for visiting and hopefully returning tourists.”
The letter seeks formal responses on setting up tolerable decibel levels as well as clearly-defined responsibilities on how to enforce the law and resolve situations. For this the signatories ask that the community’s law enforcement contact process be outlined, that the enforcing entity be defined and a resolution protocol be identified.
The petition also asks that commercial establishments make a “concerted effort to find the most reasonable method in which to provide music and entertainment and maintain as much of a sound barrier as possible between the venue and the community at large.”
Seeking clarity, the petitioners request “that specific consequences be defined and put in writing, stipulating action to be taken for overt disregard of the parameters of the ordinance.”

GOOD. VERY, VERY GOOD. Keep Saba uniquely quiet; thats what it is KNOWN for: peace and quiet. DON’T EVER let it turn into just like all the other islands. Also; dire need for “speed bumps” in strategic places.
Instead of Mark Johnson making a petition about people spending their hard earned money legally by purchasing a sound system to place in the cars, and taking away a hobby in which many young people enjoy doing. He should invest his time and efforts in to the drug dealing that takes place outside his shop on a daily basis. Daily there is a group of people that sit around Windwardside selling drugs and not just weed but hard drugs also. And nothing is being done about it. If the people with loud music in their cars were selling drugs to make the money to buy their sound systems I could fully understand trying to stop it, but the people with the music work hard doing honest work to enjoy a hobby they like. If the people of Saba keep allowing these X-Pats to come into our island and turn into one big retiring home they will force the young people who are the future of this same island to go somewhere to live where they can live happy. I understand the music in the night can be disturbing so just make them stop playing there music after 10pm in built up areas and problem solved. But during the day time its ignorance to say to stop it.
Local law forbids the making of excessive noise AND the use of drugs.
For the law it is the same.
The police does nothing against the noise and also nothing against the drugs. Great job being a police officer.
As far as I know, the Police force has the responsibility!

The enforcement of illegal drug dealing on Saba falls on the shoulders of the Police not the store owners. The complaint of loud music and loud exhaust on vehicles effects everyone on the island. If people want to enjoy their music in a loud manner they should put on headphones so everyone else on the island doesn’t have to listen to their “hobby”!
