Media Authority to monitor radio and TV

Last week, the Dutch Media Authority or ‘Commissariaatvoor de Media’ (in Dutch) visited Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba for the first time. In accordance with the Media Act BES the Media Authority also has a task in the Caribbean Netherlands.

The aim of this visit of the Dutch Media Authority was to orientate itself on developments in the fields of radio and television. The Dutch Media Authority does not deal with printed media.

Chairperson of the Dutch Media Authority Tineke Bahlmann said, “For us it was important, and also a pleasure, to meet the Island Governors and representatives of the Island Councils and radio and television stations on Bonaire, Statia and Saba. We had many useful and fruitful meetings which will certainly help us to do our work the right way.”

The Dutch Media Authority is located in Hilversum, the Netherlands, and will be represented in the Caribbean Netherlands by Sedney Marten, employee of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science OCW at Kingdom Service Caribbean Netherlands (Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland, RCN).
