No fuss about International Women’s Day

With the Strong Women of Saba organization undergoing changes in leadership and board, International Women’s Day 2012 was only modestly marked by a banner on the government building and female employees wearing government issued pink T-shirts for the occasion. The T-shirts were financially supported by the Executive Council. A note issued by the office of Commissioner Bruce Zagers to the female civil servants read, “It is our pleasure to honour you with an International Women’s Day T-shirt, which you are allowed to wear to work.”

No other events marked the occasion, as strict regulations are enforced regarding requests for public event permits. The new request procedure involves submitting the request to the Governor’s Office three weeks prior to the date of the event.
