Lorenzo Caines, a local athlete and trainer, left on Friday to the Netherlands for a two week sports education course “Train the Trainer,” where he will be taught various methods of how to educate other instructors on the island to also train local athletes. The course is being hosted by the Netherlands Institute of Sports and Physical Activity (NISB) and the Municipality of Ede. The NISB has been working along with government to improve the quality of sports and fitness activities on the island.
Caines, who is a technician in the IT Department for the Public Entity, volunteers his time on a regular basis to work with young athletes to instil the discipline that is necessary to be competitive in any sport. Commissioner of Sports Bruce Zagers said, “Lorenzo was chosen to go to the Netherlands because of his clear interest in sports and his motivation in sports. He is a positive role model for young people on the island.” When asked how he felt about his trip to the Netherlands, Caines said that he has glad to be able to have the opportunity to be part of the course and was looking forward to being able to pass on the knowledge he will acquire during his trip.
