State Secretary of Finance suggested conducting an interdepartmental study to chart the economic situation on Bonaire and the other two public bodies St. Eustatius and Saba. The results of this study could be reason to implement tax adjustments. As of October 1st 2011, in anticipation of the results of this study, the state secretary had already implemented several concrete adjustments to the so-called “quick wins” in the tax regime of the three islands. However, to adjust the tax system structurally, a united viewpoint from the population and the business community (on the islands) is necessary, besides insight into the current tax legislation. Additionally, any adjustments should mean an actual improvement for the current tax system.
