Local non-governmental and non-profit organizations joined efforts in organizing a week of youth oriented activities. The joint platform brings together the coordinating efforts of Expertise Centre Education Care (EC2), the financial support of AIDS Support Group Saba Foundation (ASGS), the involvement of Child Focus Foundation and Juliana’s Hotel in providing accommodation to offisland guests. Among invited guests for the events, EC2 secured the visit of Lennox Bernard, Emeritus Head with School of Continuing Studies and Senior Lectures at University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. ASGS supported the return of Mega D, accompanied by artiste/musician Magumbo Muntu, who will be jointly involved in motivational talks and music workshops at Saba Comprehensive School (SCS). Born in St. Eustatius, Mega D is a known in the Caribbean and Europe as a dancehall and reggae musician. He is actively involved in motivational youth programmes through his Mega D Youth Foundation, while Muntu is conducting similar art workshops under the Heart Asylum programme.
The event series is to encourage active student, teacher and parent involvement in education.
Bernard will host individual meetings with parents, teachers and students. Based on his findings, he will hold informative follow-up sessions about faced challenges. Parents, teachers, internal guidance officers (IGOs) and school managers are invited to meet with Bernard and give their input for the final presentation. All parents are invited to attend an information session at Child Focus in Windwardside today, Wednesday, at 4:00pm. Teachers, IGOs and school managers are invited for follow-up presentations on Thursday, March 15, at Sacred Heart School for this school’s teachers and Laura Lindsay Day Care Centre, and at Saba Comprehensive School for Social Youth Opportunity Programme (SKJ) staff and SCS teachers. Parents, teachers and students are encouraged to participate in a drama group coordinated by Micheline Hinse. The whole community is invited to what the organizers call “an inspiring, informative and entertaining evening on the topic of parental involvement” at Eugenius Johnson Centre on Thursday, March 15, from 6:00 to 8:30pm.
