Health care foundations signed agreement with WIHCUA

In what was deemed a historic event, health care foundations of St. Eustatius and Saba signed the first-ever joint labour agreement with Windward Islands Health Care Union and Associates (WIHCUA) at the Golden Era hotel conference room Wednesday afternoon. The agreement was signed by Saba Health Care Foundation (SHCF) director Joka Blaauboer-Koot, St. Eustatius Health Care Foundation (SEHCF) director Paul Schats, WIHCUA president Julian Lynch and PR manager Greg Arrindell, Benevolent Foundation Saba (BFS) president Roy Smith and director of the Auxiliary Home for the Elderly Sjouke Bakker. Attending the signing were General Director FWG (Health Care Job Valuation) Jan Helmond, FWG consultant Albert Wielink, Queen Beatrix Medical Centre (QBMC) representatives assistant doctor Gerard Berkel and shop steward Fiena Fortin, BFS board member Dave Levenstone, Auxiliary Home representatives Renneta Mercurius and shop steward Roxie Simmons, shop steward at A.M. Edwards Medical Centre in Saba Hanneke Mayee, and Saba shop steward Ludwina Charles.

The signed document regulates the salary structure of workers with SHCF, BFS, SEHCF and the Auxiliary Home for 2012. Under the Collective Labour Agreement (CLA), which was negotiated on Saba on February 20 and 21, the following agreements in regard to the salary structure have been made. The current salary structure will be adjusted retroactive per January 1, 2012, conform the salary scales and amounts as agreed upon in the CLA of Fundashon Mariadal health care foundation in Bonaire on November 2011. This includes the indexation for 2012.

For the salaries in 2013, salary indexation will be implemented on January 1 of the same year for inflation correction, which is to be based on the average annual consumer price index for Saba and Stadia, as established and published by the Central Bureau for Statistics. The salaries of present employees will be adjusted accordingly based on the salary structure table. The mutations from January 1, 2012 will be processed in the payroll at the soonest convenience and paid out to employees.
