Marines did more than training in Hurricane Exercise

The marines company and the supporting navy crew of the Royal Marines in the Caribbean region during the Hurricane Exercise are working not only on training. They also dedicate themselves to the population of St. Eustatius and Saba.

On St. Eustatius 25 military personnel (soldiers) worked on a major facelift project for the local afterschool programme, the Buzzy Bees”. The entire building, which provides daycare for 106 children, received a new coat of paint to the great satisfaction of the director Rita Hassell. “The military brought with them the paint and brushes. I am very pleased with this. The children will be surprised tomorrow”.

At the same time the military pulled up their sleeves for another facelift project which involved pruning and cleaning up. On Saba several soldiers played a combined football- and basket ball match with and against the local teams. “With this we demonstrate that for us it is more than just about training and leaving again”. We also want to leave something lasting behind for the inhabitants”, according to sergeant of the marines Mar nix Haverkamp.
