Justice officials complete course on sexual offences

Seventeen participants from Aruba, Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba completed an intensive three-day course on sexual offences last week. Among participants were two prosecutors, a police doctor, forensic detectives and members of the youth and vice squads of the police forces of Aruba and the Caribbean Netherlands. Several aspects of the handling of sexual offences were being taught, among which were interrogation, crime scene investigations, safeguarding of evidence, mistreatment of children, sexual offences involving children younger than 16, and investigations of deceased victims. The course, organised by the Police Force of the Caribbean Netherlands in cooperation with the Dutch Forensic Institute NFI, brought together all police services involved with sex crimes, and was considered instrumental in streamlining and coordinating police efforts to fight these types of crime. The course was closed off with an exam on Thursday, September 13. All participants passed the exam.
