From September 24th till 28th, the Director General of Nature and Region of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (in Dutch: Ministerie van Economische Zaken, Landbouw en Innovatie
(EL& I), Mrs. Annemie Burger, will visit Saba, St. Eustatius and Bonaire. She comes to speak about the ideas that the islands have regarding the use of the budget of 10 million Euros, that has been made available from the Ministry of EL&I for nature, environment and sustainability. In addition, she will also discuss energy issues, sustainable growth, tourism and agricultural potential on the islands.
On the different islands, Mrs. Burger will hand over plaques to the nature organizations, to confirm officially the status of national park for the national parks which are eligible for it. This will take place in the presence of members of the Public Entities.
On Saba, this is scheduled on Monday, September 24th. At the same time, Mrs. Burger will baptize the Sababank patrol boat in the port, with the by Her Majesty approved name “Queen Beatrix”.
On September 25th, the national park status will be granted on Statia to both the Quill/Boven as to the Marine park.
On September 27th, the national park status will be granted to Stinapa for the Marine park on Bonaire.
On Statia, Mrs. Burger will be the keynote speaker at the 1st Annual Statia’s Sustainability Conference. On Bonaire she will get to know nature organizations as DCNA and STCB, and of course Stinapa. She will be given explanation of the projects Bonaire Green Island Economy (in collaboration with WNF) and Bonaire: the economics of ecosystems and biodiversity (in collaboration with VU, WUR Imares).
On Bonaire, she will also visit Magasina di Rei, where a small business to business exhibition on sustainability is being held: from sustainably produced regional products to technical possibilities for energy savings.
