Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten reminded the general public on Monday that as part of St. Maarten’s transition to the North American Numbering Plan, the use of country code “599” is now discontinued for St. Maarten. All calls to St. Maarten now need to be made by using our new dialling code “1-721” or locally by dialling the seven-digit local number. Local and international calls to St. Maarten numbers using country code 599 will no longer be processed; country code 599 will only remain in effect for St. Eustatius, Saba, Curaçao and Bonaire. St. Maarten residents and business are advised to reprogramme devices with stored numbers such as (mobile) phones, faxes, tablets and alarm systems. Country code “+599” in front of all St. Maarten numbers needs to be removed or changed to “+1721” in order for the calls to go through or to identify callers when receiving calls.
More information about St. Maarten’s transition to the North American Numbering Plan and all new dialling patterns are available on the website www.sxmregulator.sx .
