Spies: Sea cable is very important for Saba and Statia

The Dutch Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations has invested over eight million US dollars in laying a sea cable between St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius, but it’s worth it. “The importance of the glass fibre connection is multi-faceted.” “It contributes toward an improvement of the social, economic and cultural developments of the islands, increases the reliability of the communication connections and is also important for health care and safety, “caretaker Minister Liesbeth Spies wrote in reply to questions from the Second Chamber of Parliament in The Hague. After all, a better connection is cost-effective.

The investment in the sea cable consists of six million US dollars for the installation in 2011, one million in 2012 and 1.2 million in 2013 to make the sea cable operational and secure for the future, according to Spies.
