Property tax decrees have been released

In a press release, the RCN announced that property tax decrees have been sent out recently in the public entities Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. “This value decree indicates the value of your immovable goods for property tax. Based on this value the payable property tax is determined”

The current value of one’s immovable goods is indicated on this value decree and is not the amount payable for property tax. The
effective payable amount of the tax is one per cent of the determined value. “You will receive the assessment of the tax on which the payable amount is mentioned by the end of 2012” .

Meanwhile the State Secretary (Junior Minister) of Finance has announced a bill that aims at decreasing as of 2011 the property tax to be paid for hotels to 0.4 per cent and for other real estate to 0.8 per cent. Also, as of 2011 the first US $50,000 of the value of second homes of individuals is exempt from property tax.

Moreover, the State Secretary proposes an additional reduction of 0.2 per cent of the tariff for the years 2011 and 2012. This is because the 2011 assessment will be imposed simultaneously with the 2012 assessment. Property tax is intended for, among others, owners of a second house in Bonaire, Saba or St. Eustatius and for non-private persons (entities) that own immovable goods.
