Saba Day Preparations in Full Swing

Plans for this year’s Saba Day Celebrations are well underway, Commissioner of Culture Bruce Zagers said in a statement to GIS. This year will be the 37th celebration of the island’s National Day, which will be held on December 7th, 2012.

The official celebrations this year will include the opening of the new Culture Building in the Bottom, which is nearing completion. Guests and dignitaries from on and off island have been invited to attend this year’s festivities.

The focus this year is will be the traditional events that have always been part of Saba Day celebrations in the past and a particular emphasis is being placed on the sporting activities for school children. These activities will utilize the various sporting venues on the island.

Also slated to be part of this year’s activities is the annual Wahoo tournament which is also a highlight of the weekend celebrations and is guaranteed to attract fishermen from the neighboring islands.

A schedule of this year’s activities will be released within short. The commissioner expressed his hopes that residents will come and join in this year’s celebrations in a spectacular display of national pride.
