Dutch Caribbean men 14 times more likely to be murdered

There were 165 murders in the Netherlands last year, an increase of seven on 2010 but still well below the levels in the early 2000s, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.
Twice as many men as women were killed and one third of them were shot, the CBS said.
Over the past 15 years, 3,058 people have been murdered in the Netherlands, of whom some 450 did not live in the country.
Of those who did, 45% had an ethnic minority background. This means ‘non-western men’ are six times as likely to be murdered as the white native Dutch, the CBS says. Men from the former Dutch Caribbean colonies are 14 times as likely to die a violent death.
