Certificates for Customs

The certificate ceremony of the C-Course for Customs officials of the Caribbean Netherlands recently took place on Bonaire. It followed after an intensive and broad professional training for starting officers that lasted almost a year. In total 12 passed this course, but what is striking is that the majority are women. According to a press release, the curriculum was varied, to ensure that these officials are well prepared for their task. The programme consisted of a combination of practice and theory, based on the so-called “training on the job” principle. Because of new legislation an investment was made in course material in cooperation with the Dutch Tax Administration’s Centre for Knowledge and Communication, and consequently the quality of the training was tailored to the level of the Dutch Customs training. The Caribbean Netherlands Customs is particularly responsible for supervision of import, export and transit of goods on the three special overseas public bodies Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. During the ceremony the so-called E-Training for Customs officers was officially kicked off as well. Seven officials to will participate in this course to allow for their appointment as E-officers. The training also lasts up to one year, during which the employees will follow a very intensive programme. The goal is to teach these persons the knowledge and skills that are required to perform the tasks associated with the function of E-officer. This course also is based on the “training on the job” principle.
