KLM and Curaçao-based Insel Air Sign Code-Share Agreement

Dutch Caribbean Business reports that Dutch airline KLM and Curaçao-based Insel Air decided to strengthen their mutual cooperation through a code-share agreement. At Insel Air the mood is one of jubilation as recognition by an aviation giant like KLM is considered an important milestone for the relatively young private airline.

The code-share agreement offers passengers of both airlines more convenience and opportunities because they can now travel to more destinations without having to re-check luggage at intermediate airports. In addition, the schedules will be carefully synchronized so that the travel time is minimized. Passengers can start booking through the new code-shared system from December 1^st, 2012.

The airlines have been cooperating since July 2011 through an interline agreement. This cooperation has now been extended and expanded. The new agreement was recently signed in Amstelveen by Albert Kluyver, director of Insel Air and Pieter Elbers, managing director and chief operating officer (COO) of KLM.

“The expanded cooperation between KLM and Insel Air gives us the opportunity to offer some additional Caribbean destinations from Curaçao”, said Elbers. According to Kluyver, chief executive officer (CEO) of Insel Air, the collaboration is of great importance for both companies. “For some time now our customers we serve within our Pan American network have been demonstrating a growing demand for destinations in Europe and the Far East. With this agreement we can better accommodate our passengers, offering them greater travel convenience and more destinations.

In the coming months both KLM and Insel Air will inform their passengers on the many opportunities this code-share agreement will provide.
