A man from St. John’s, who threatened his employers because he was fired, was arrested on Monday and released on Wednesday. Police are finalizing their investigation into this case and are preparing it for submission to the Prosecutor’s Office, according to Acting Chief of Police Wingrove Baker.
A second arrest on Tuesday involved a case of attempted narcotics smuggling into the island. Baker did not give many details about the arrest so as to not jeopardize the on-going investigation. He reiterated the need for the community to assist by coming forward with pertinent information. He echoed Chief Herman Oosterveen’s disappointment that despite many witnesses to an earlier incident of domestic violence, the case had to be closed without anyone coming forward.
Baker also admonished those who are not abiding with the traffic rules, signalling that the police will be “closely monitoring the ‘wheel spinning’ jeopardizing traffic safety and security and those caught will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Just thought I’d amend that one. Prisoners are addressed by their achternaam, the chief will always be the chief, acting or not.
Maybe a little retentive.. But that seems, at this point, to be the vogue.
