Sixty years Antillean Youth Care Federation

The Federation for Antillean Youth Care FAJ reached the respectable age of sixty; a milestone marked by committee members and community leaders with weekend celebrations for children. Under the guidance of Sacred Heart School teacher Miranda Simmons, preparations started since Thursday, November 22. Teachers and students worked on making a congratulations card, decorated the halls and shared homemade cupcakes. Children participated in a colouring competition on Friday, making a chain with positive “words of support,” said one of the organisers, Anastasia Simmons. In addition to balloon games, the children were treated to ice cream and other sweets. On Saturday, 21 youngsters travelled to St. Maarten to participate in volleyball and soccer competitions. The trip was supported by FAJ to mark its anniversary and the International Year of the Child, Simmons said. During these events participants and volunteers were reminded of FAJ’s role in encouraging and supporting positive, stimulating projects for youths of the islands of the former Netherlands Antilles.
