Saba University School of Medicine (SUSOM) students assisted the Saba Lions Club members in packing the Hurricane Season baskets for the club’s annual food bank. The beneficiaries are mostly elderly residents who need help especially during the often challenging hurricane season.
The groups of student volunteers are current members of SUSOM’s Alpha Omega Phi Honour and Service Society. They met last Friday with club members at the Eugenius Johnson Center in Windwardside where the products are stored and put together in more than 70 baskets, which include everything from canned or pasteurized food to toiletries, batteries and flashlights.
Saba Lions Club President Glenn Holm said he is happy with the support from the medical students and expressed to them the gratitude of the recipients. Club members have been distributing the baskets to the identified recipients throughout the week.
