Carnival in Saba jumped off Monday night with a lighted parade from St. Johns to The Bottom, followed by live music from St. Kitts’ Kollision Band for the remainder of the evening.

The opening parade did not gather a large crowd as most people waited at Carnival Village for the official opening ceremony. At the gate, Governor Johnson handed the key to the longest serving member of Saba Cultural Foundation Julietta Woods. After the crowd had entered the newly repainted stadium, Irving Riley opened the ceremony by singing the Saba Song. He was followed by Commissioner of Culture Bruce Zagers who gave his welcoming remarks.
Many spectators received freebies and purchased this year’s specially issued T-shirts with the 2013 Saba Carnival motto “Jump and scream.”
