From July 30 to August 9 – writes The Daily Herald – the Acting Island Registrar Akilah Levenstone received on the job training from visiting Registrar Hans van Berkel. He is the current registrar of the Reusel de Mierden municipality in the South of The Netherlands and Levenstone’s mentor. Van Berkel first took on this responsibility during Levenstone’s two-week working-visit to The Netherlands in March. The two worked together for the most part reviewing and discussing laws and procedures applicable to the Public Entity but also comparing them with the established practices in the Dutch municipalities.
During his stay Van Berkel attended the Central Committee meeting on August 6th but despite initial willingness to comment on his visit he declined an interview. Asked to comment on the insights gained by this training Levenstone said “I am very happy to have had the opportunity to work with Mr. van Berkel and he was happy to be here and provide his services.”
