The Catholic Youth of the island led by Living Water Community sister Jenni Jennings held a thanks giving event Sunday evening August 25, for all those who spiritually and financially supported the Youth’s trip to Trinidad in July, as reported in The Daily Herald. The youth performed a song and a short skit practiced during their trip and extended thanks to the community for their support. The youth thanked Pastor Fr. Danilo, grandparents and parents who made monthly donations and held fundraising events as well as for “the very generous contribution of Satel,” the local telecommunications company. The trip was meant to crease exposure while the youth bonded amongst themselves and with Trinidadian peers. Sister Jennings spoke of the “powerful spiritual experiences they had enjoyed at the youth camp organized by Living Water Community in Trinidad.” The goal was for the youth to balance social life and the spiritual exposure while exploring Trinidadian life. A “major highlight of the trip was the Spirit Seminar experience of laying on of hands” she said. The group bonded while visiting the Trinidad Zoo and for the first time the children held live snakes. They had seen a 3D movie and went Ziplining swinging between trees. In trips to Maracas Bay, the youth were introduced to roadside traditional dishes like Doubles and Aloo pies and sampled the Shart and Bake and the Roti. They visited with Living Water Community peers and elders. The trip led to the youth’s commitment to play an active community role though weekly service planning meetings. These are to be held on Thursdays at the Saba Comprehensive School. There is interest in a follow-up youth mission trip next year.
