Two RCN campaigns on Day of the Press

The Daily Herald reports that the National Service Caribbean Netherlands RCN paid attention to the Day of the Press in a special way. After an interactive workshop on intercultural communication for journalists, RCN launched two campaigns. The first regards a new promotion film on the Caribbean Netherlands: “The most beautiful piece of the Netherlands,” which was shown for the first time. With this short film, RCN wants to inform everyone in a pleasant way on the facts and figures of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. The film will be shown by various media and made available to schools. It is also the intention to let residents of the European Netherlands became acquainted with the islands in a different way. The film was made by Lamédia Bonaire and is available in three languages.

The second campaign is a photo contest with the theme “This is the spot,” a cross-border competition for all citizens of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. A photography exhibition will open November 16 on Bonaire, and subsequently on St. Eustatius and Saba. A total of 29 unique pictures from the three overseas public bodies will be shown by winners of the contest in which all residents of the Caribbean Netherlands can participate as of now. “With this photographic exhibit and accompanying Facebook page showing all pictures submitted, the citizens of Caribbean Netherlands will offer each other and the Netherlands a personal and dearest view of their own island. These could be pictures of the island, of family, school, work or of their home. “The point is sharing the spot one cherishes – the spot that has a unique meaning and where one feels at ease,” the RCN press release stated.

The photo competition has three categories of participants: youngsters up to 13 years of age, young adults from 13 to 21 years of age and adults, 21 years and older. Pictures can be taken with mobile telephones, tablets and simple to semiprofessional cameras. Three winners will be selected per age category and per island, which will yield a total of 27 pictures. Also, “the most popular” and “the best of the best” entries will be selected. The most popular picture will be selected by voting via Facebook. The winners of the most popular and the best of the best will also receive a modern camera. An independent jury will be appointed for the photo contest and is to consist of two professional photographers and one representative from each island. The pictures will be evaluated on content, artistic image and technical quality, and of course the jury will consider the equipment used to take the picture.
