NTR | caribbean network reports that European grant money from the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) for Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius will be managed by International Management Group (IMG). Executive USONA is no longer involved in this.
The choice of a new party was needed, because the European Commission had notified on January 7, 2013 to the Netherlands not to wish to work with USONA, the organization that manages the grant money of the Development Foundation Netherlands Antilles (SONA). Enabling another party was needed to ensure that the islands can still receive money from the European Development Funds.
The Dutch government and the board of Netherlands Antilles Development Foundation (SONA) have not heard any results of the investigations that the European anti-fraud office OLAF has set into possible misuse of grant funds. This study recently made the position of State Representative Wilbert Stolte embarrassing, because in that period he was treasurer at SONA.
All of this is came became obvious in a letter by Minister Ronald Plasterk Kingdom Relations sent to the Second Chamber on 12 September. USONA will however continue to remain responsible for managing the money from the 9th European Development Fund (EDF), according Plasterk.
