The Daily Herald reports that Home Foundation (OYOHF) Director Rolando Wilson issued a press statement on the visit of a delegation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment to Saba on Saturday, September 14. A groundbreaking ceremony at the to-be-renovated Queen Wilhelmina Park was one of the highlights of the visit. Director General of the Ministry’s Department of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment (VROM) Mark Frequin met with the Executive Council and OYOHF members. The delegation visited the Under the Hill social housing project in The Bottom, a project which received Frequin’s approval two and a half years ago. Wilson, who also is Central Committee chairman and a leader of the governing Windward Islands People’s Movement (WIPM) party, said that Frequin “was very satisfied and pleased to see the progress that was made.”
The delegation also visited Queen Wilhelmina Park in The Bottom next to the recently renovated Governor’s Residence and the newly built Carmen Simmons Cultural Centre. The park is expected to receive a major overhaul with funding made available by the ministry. The visit was an opportunity to mark the beginning of work on the project with a ground-breaking ceremony. Shovel in hand both ministry representatives Victor Schaapman and Mark Frequin posed shoulder to shoulder with OYOHF director Wilson, Commissioner Bruce Zagers and Vernon Hassell, owner of Hassell Enterprises N.V., the local company contracted to complete the facelift. Wilson’s statement also relayed that Frequin has expressed support for the cooperation between OYOHF and Woonlinie social housing corporation in Zaltbommel, the Netherlands.
