On Monday, September 23th at 21:15, a man (60) was arrested at his home on Saba. The police had received a report that a man, after he had caused a collision with material damage, ran into his house. Although neighbors called upon him, his door remained closed.
The police arrived at the scene and ordered the suspect to come to the front door. The suspect appeared with his partner at the front door while an agent unsolicited showed his police ID card. The suspect then hit the police ID card out of the hands of the agent, pulled out a knife and made a stabbing move toward his colleagues who were within very close distance of the suspect.
As a response, a police woman pulled out her weapon, pointed it at the suspect and ordered him to drop his knife. The man dropped the knife and could be arrested after a short struggle. The man was taken to the police station and brought before an assistant prosecutor.
Shortly after taken into custody, the suspect was brought to the hospital because of chest/heart complains. He is guarded by police personnel. The police is investigating the case.

What a hubbub over a scratch on a car. The man should have to come next day to his insurance agent and be done with it. Police has no business ordering civilian citizens to come out without warrant. A police badge is not enough to enter.
That first comment made no SENSE, Thats was an uneducated comment.
If this is indeed how it happened, Police doesn’t need a warrant to ask you to come out your house thats for one.
Secondly…A badge is not enough to enter… Most probably thats why they were asking the man in question to come out? Did u consider that?!?!
Thirdly, If my car got scratched and the person that caused the damage fled the scene damn straight i goin police!!!
First of all R.C. barley tapped the car that was in HIS usual home parking spot!!! It was NOT a HIT AND RUN!! He remained parked behind the car he “tapped”!! Also this home, should YOU have ever visited,you would know that the front door is so far from the bedrooms that one can not hear someone at the door. I go there often and do scare them when I enter “as a personal friend” AND THEY DID NOT HEAR ME KNOCK!!!! We do NOT have door BELLS here in Saba so as a non-Saban you have no idea what you are speaking on!!!! Thus the first comment made perfect sense!!
The neighbor in question with the small scratch never dreamed this would be handled like this, he is a really nice guy and simply made a call to the police to cover for insurance purposes. If and when the home owner “ASLEEP”, over an hour later…… did not answer the door knock,leave a note/ticket what ever… and return in the a.m.!!!! NO they proceeded to shine flash lights in all the windows, and entered into the yard through a private gate.AGAIN NOT A HIT AND RUN!!!!! Come on now this was not something that COULD NOT WAIT till the following day!!!! It was a fender bender of sorts any one knows when you park and tap another car, the damage is minimal!! And the perp did NOT LEAVE THE SCENE, he simply went to bed. The idea that he RAN in to his house is a huge exaggeration!!!!!!!! I have never seen this man run, and he is not gonna start over a minor issue as this!! He would have handled it the following day, Locals, as a fact, the other guy is,Well if you lived here long you would appreciate that they DO go to bed early here in Saba. So to go and wake someone up for something this minor, well lets simply say,R.C. didn’t beat on doors or shine lights into private windows,BUT was waiting to the next day!!!! We, here in Saba, are very neighborly and this issue would not have blown it self up as it was had the police not been so AGRESSIVE!!! (Just out of police school is the obvious answer here.) Hungry for the power!!!!! WELL THEN WEAR YOUR DAMN UNIFORMS SO WE DO NOT QUESTION A DARK SKINNED MAN ENTERING YOUR PROPERTY THAT YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IN YOUR LIFE BEFORE!!! Yelling and Screaming,Along with the fact any one can make ANY kind of I.D. these days!!! Get real here!!! A uniformed person deserves respect…… “when worn”……. and that respect is given OUT!!This is not a communist country of law!!!! They rotate these people with this job in and out of our small, kind hearted island…from other LARGER- Crime Ridden Islands. (Our last murder was 25 years ago!!!!!!) We don’t deal with rape,murder,kidnapping,hold-ups,etc. We only deal with petty crimes here in Saba.(Such as Drunk/disorderly,drugs, which are every where in the world, and domestic!! THAT IS OUR CRIME STORY HERE IN SABA. (They should study the area they are working in.) IN MY LIFE NO POLICE OFFICER WOKE SOMEONE UP FOR A MINOR ISSUE AS SUCH, SIMPLY LEFT A NOTE/TICKET TO RESPOND IN THE A.M. to “Our” police station. Further more, I feel they should have contacted OUR MAJOR HERE IN SABA!!!!! Major Baker would never have disrespected someone as such!!!! And I know for a fact he would have handled it professionally!! Now we await our Amazing Govoner to take some action here.GET THIS DOCTOR OUT OF JAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We as a whole here in Saba have lost all respect for these temporary police officers…What a thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am outraged at what took place as well, however, the comments by TC are a bit sophomoric when she talks about the “dark skinned man…”. So my question is, would it have been better or safer to let these strangers in if they were white?
We are all upset by what happened, but keep your bigotry to yourself. It’s not going to help the cause of this man locked up.
I advise everybody who has complaints about the police to fill in this form but also to make a printscreen of the completed form before sending it and publish that on Facebook. But don’t forget to push the button “send” of course.

Me a bigot, you surly don’t know me that’s for true!! But You are SO right, it would not have been good for any one to enter one’s domain at night uninvited, “except when it is dark, it is hard to visualize one with skin the same, especially when we all know one another, and this is a “stranger” and happens to be in street clothes claiming to be a police officer! I am the last person to judge on skin, religion, etc. I am sorry that this came off this way! But thank you for pointing out my error in this manner. This story stinks so bad its unbelievable. Sorry to say but what kind of person calls a police for that kind of problem and if he know the guy he could have waited until morning. Its not like the man was going to take the next helicopter out. So first of all that person is guilty as hell for making trouble. And no I have no idea who that person was, so I can just be honest here with the whole situation. As for the police brutality, that these police go unpunished for there actions makes it blatantly obvious how afraid everyone has become in rocking the Dutch boat. But lets be honest, this man in the house and his wife have a human rights case here against those police and if it were me I would seek compensation for all that uncalled for terror that was done to that family that evening.
Why are the police carrying guns if they are out of uniform? As far as the public are concerned they would appear to be just an armed person who is a threat.
First of all that person my was my mom and dad. My mom parked the car and when she came back to her car, she realized that the professor parked his car into her bumper and it made a dent into it. So she just asked who the car belonged to and she tried calling out to the house but no one answered. The neighbors heard. she was not making any trouble she just wanted the person to come out and look at the car that’s it. But no one answered and she called my father to help her. Neither one of them was trying to make trouble. He then called the police to come and help them with the situation so the professor could come out the house and see the situation. The police came and then it all escalated from there.
My mother and father both did not want any problems, there car is practically brand new and all she wanted was to get the person to see what they did. She was not taking up anyone’s parking spot either.
First of all, with regards to Tricia’s comment, there is a lot more crime here on Saba than you think – prostitution, human trafficking (which is basically kidnapping), theft of computers/phones…, break ins. I would much rather the police deal with those actual crimes than track people down for a fender bender.
This could have easily been prevented if he had waited around for the owner of the car after hitting it like any “friendly neighbour” would do. If he absolutely couldn’t wait around for some reason, he could have at the very least left a note apologizing with his contact information, so that he could be contacted in the morning. Although I agree that the police overreacted to this complaint, I do think the whole thing could have been avoided if RC had handled it better in the first place.
