Flights cancelled because of heavy rain and thunder

Windward Islands Airways International Winair cancelled flights to St. Eustatius, Saba, St. Barths and St. Kitts and Nevis on Monday afternoon due to heavy rain, thunder and lightning. This writes The Daily Herald. Additional flights were carried out Tuesday morning to accommodate passengers travelling to and from those islands who were affected by the flight cancellations, according to Claudio Buncamper, Winair Director Marketing,

Sales and Customer Services.

St. Eustatius, Saba and St. Maarten were blanketed in dark heavy clouds and were washed with steady rain for most of Monday. The worst of the weather came in the late afternoon and into the evening. Roaring thunders and large, bright flashes of lightning accompanied the rain. Some Statians did suffer from the rainstorm. Their home electronics were reportedly damaged by power surges. Others, who disconnected their equipment, were spared the expense of having to replace items. Some phone lines on Statia were knocked out during the electrical and rain storm.
