Lions host first zone advisory meeting

The Daily Herald reports that the first Lions Zone Advisory Meeting of Zone 2B was hosted in Saba by the Saba Lions Club on Saturday, October 12. Lion Franklin Wilson is this Lionistic Year Zone Chairman and the club was proud once again to have one of its members hold this position for the second year in a row.
Zone 2B of Region 2 in Sub-District 60B comprises four Lions Clubs on St. Maarten, Saba, Anguilla and St. Eustatius and three Leos Clubs on the first three islands.

Attending the meeting were seven visiting Lions and two Leos from the St. Maarten clubs, 17 members of the Saba Lions Club and 20 members of the newly re-activated Saba Leos Club, 83 per cent of its membership. All club presidents presented during the meeting their first quarter reports which noted their accomplishments and outlined their plans for the remainder of the Lionistic Year July 2013 to June 2014. Zone Chairman Franklin told the Lions and Leos always to put the Lions motto “We Serve” into practice. “Our main task is to assist the less fortunate and vulnerable members of our communities by giving freely of our time and means,” he said. He also reminded them to also serve with compassion, as District Governor Lion Izett McCalla’s motto is “A Passion for Compassion.”

The Saba Lions Club was one of the three main contenders for the international award of the World of Service Hunger Relief Programme, which was presented to it at this year’s International Lions Convention in Hamburg, Germany, for its sustainable signature project Meals on Wheels. The St. Maarten Lions Club has embarked on a very challenging project called “Lions and Leo Family Fun Park.” The Saba Lions and Leos also observed World Lions Day on Sunday, October 13. They attended Mass at St. Paul’s Conversion Church in the Windwardside and enjoyed brunch together at Scout’s Place. Later that afternoon, Lions and Leos with Saba’s string band The Occasionals sang and served drinks and snacks to the residents of Henry C. Every Home for the Elderly. Zone Chairman Franklin thanked all Lions and Leos for attending the first Zone Meeting and celebrating World Lions Day.
