Red Cross Board meeting on Statia

The second annual meeting of the Netherlands Red Cross and its overseas branches was held again in St. Eustatius. This writes The Daily Herald. Representatives from Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius were present, while Bonaire’s representatives participated via Skype.
The two-day meeting was held recently at Golden Era Hotel. The agreement regulating the Red Cross and its chapters was briefly examined. That agreement was signed three years ago and will be revisited in 2015. The Red Cross representatives also discussed and arrived at mutual understanding about the way to move forward for the general operations. The Dutch Caribbean branches will now also have a voice in the general meetings (Ledenraad) held in The Hague, the Netherlands annually. “This is a first for us as overseas branches and a step in the right direction, said Militza Maduro of Statia Red Cross Chapter.
The medical care and rescue SIGMA teams are of particular interest to St. Eustatius, Saba and Bonaire. Teams have to be formed. St. Eustatius has already started its recruitment by sending letters to businesses and government requesting them to allow person(s) of their organizations interested in training in advanced in medical care and rescue to sign up with Red Cross St. Eustatius.
The new board of Red Cross Bonaire and Red Cross Saba were introduced at the meeting.
The 2014 Red Cross chapters’ meeting will be held on Bonaire.
