King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima received an impressive reception at the Government Building in The Bottom on Thursday, where 45 people of the sixty-six nationalities residing on Saba were dressed in national costumes proudly displaying their native flags. This writes The Daily Herald.
The royal couple greeted those gathered from the balcony as the youth drum band marched. The Parade of the Nations involved each of the nationalities greeting the majesties in their own language and stating where they hail from. The celebration of cultural diversity was in acknowledgement of the Caribbean Netherlands’ as the Netherlands’ transatlantic foothold and natural connection with Central, North and South America. Saba Danza Group performed during this event, which was followed by a reception during which the King and Queen met with social partners and representatives of various community-based organizations.
