Catholics celebrate

The Daily Herald reports that catholics  celebrated the “Feast of Christ the King” with a special mass at Sacred Heart church in The Bottom, attended by parishioners from all villages. The Mass, marking the end and renewal of the Church calendar, was preceded by a procession and followed by a communal buffet. The celebration also marked the 29th anniversary of the vocational calling and consecration of resident priest Danilo Pastor. He is originally from the Philippines, the birthplace of many Saba residents. The special collection during Mass will go towards an aid and solidarity fund for the victims of the recent typhoon there. The message at the end of the Mass concentrated on the blessing of a vocational calling, of active work in the communities where the clergy is assigned and of sharing the spiritual wealth of Church teachings. In pledging his devotional renewal, Father Pastor asked the community to pray for forgiveness for his failings or those of the clergy at large, stressing that, “We are no angels, but human like you, full of weaknesses,” in need of prayers that strengthen the Church in a time when “labourers are few.” He also pointed at the persecution of the Church in various parts of the world.
