DutchNews reported yesterday that nearly 900,000 people aged between 62 and 75 will be called up for a bowel cancer test in January, the public health institute RIVM said on Thursday.
People will be asked to send a small sample of their faeces for testing. If traces of blood are found, they will be invited for further tests. The early testing will eventually prevent 2,400 deaths a year, the RIVM estimates
Some 13,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year and some 5,000 die of the disease.
The tests are being phased in and will eventually cover everyone aged 55 to 75. In total four million people will be included in the tests, which will be taken every two years.
It was not stated if the BES islands will be part of this nationwide testing scheme.
At the boyish age of 43 I’m finding it hard to contain my anticipation for that fateful day in 19 years time when I will be required by law to post my fæces to some Dutch officialdom with a note that says “Check this S*!# out!”
Joking aside, fellas get it checked now, it’s a killer.
Why wait until 62 to start testing? At age 47, my brother was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer that metastasized to his liver.
Why not the B.E.S. Islands, we are after all part of Holland now? And to wait till you are 62 is ridicules!! Most tests I fell should start mid 40’s and or at 50!! We after all need to be healthy as possible in our 60’s so we can contribute to community and family, and love life for another good 20 years, with healthy bodies. Why is there even a question if B.E.S. will be involved in this testing? HELP!?!?
