Unqualified teachers in bachelor’s course

According the Daily Herald approximately fifteen unqualified teachers from the secondary school community Bonaire SGB, Forma, Gwendoline van Putten on St. Eustatius and the Saba Comprehensive School (SCS) are following the bachelor’s teacher credential programme for biology, mathematics, techniques, GZW and personal interaction on Bonaire. These courses are organised through the “Maestro Kompas” project. Other programmes were started earlier on through this project, provided by the University of Curacao (UC) in Bonaire and partly via Internet. Maestro Kompas is a programme set up by “Hogeschool Utrecht” and the Open University by order of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science OC&W.
The programmes now starting are “blended” “and provided by instructors from Utrecht, UC, the University of Aruba (UA) and the University of St. Martin (USM). Together with Maestro Kompas, these regional institutions are preparing collaboration arrangement (Uni-Carib).
The students are offered several vocational and academic subjects. Afterwards, they maintain contact with the instructors via Skype. There will be face-to-face classes again on Bonaire in April, during several afternoons. The subjects will be closed off and new ones started up. Then starts another period with Skype contact and working independently, followed by a physical contact period again in June. This will continue until the students complete their personal bachelor’s programme in 2016.
