The Daily Herald writes that Curaçao, St. Maarten, Aruba and the BES-Islands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba) are doing very little to fight corruption. However, Aruba could serve as an example for Curaçao and St. Maarten on how to combat international drug trafficking, according to the US International Narcotics Control Strategy Report (INCSR) 2013.
Corruption among government officials and in particular members of the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard remains worrisome and efforts to tackle the problem are often lacking. For example, security checks on officials holding sensitive positions are still not conducted regularly. Also many government agencies have not adopted the integrity standards yet.
