The Daily Herald reports that the Henry Every Old Age Home hosted a fundraising food sale on Friday, March 28, in The Bottom.
All employees of the hospice and many family members, friends and other volunteers participated as volunteers in the cooking of various local-flavour dishes.
Many people in the community placed orders well in advance, with the high volume of requests keeping the men at the grill busy all day long.
Among the day’s enthusiastic volunteers was Island Councilman Eviton Heyliger, who led the team of men handling grills. Some medical school students volunteered to distribute the food on campus to faculty and students, substantially boosting the base and reach of this fundraising exercise.
While the exact amount of the proceeds hasn’t yet been determined, the funds will assist the home to take some of the residents on a group day-trip to St. Maarten.
