Customs on Bonaire intercepted drugs and money

Recently members of Caribbean Netherlands Customs (Douane Caribisch Nederland ) have seized drugs and money. A total of 1,454.10 grams of cocaine, 2,030 pieces of xtc pills, 1,000 methadone pills, 506.70 grams of heroin and 535.60 grams of cannabis were intercepted on Bonaire, representing a total street value of USD 114,476. The total cash amount seized was 10,324.15 Euros.

 On March 7, 2014, members of the Team Physical Supervision of Douane Caribisch Nederland intercepted 2,030 pieces ecstasy pills, 1,000 methadone pills and 506.70 grams of heroin. These goods were found hidden in a sound installation box. This happened during a routine check at the Post Office on Bonaire, where the scanning machine was used on site. The destination of these goods was Bonaire and they were imported from the Netherlands.

On March 8, 2014, members of the Team Physical Supervision intercepted 535.60 grams of cannabis on Bonaire. The cannabis was found on a female passenger of 25 years on a scheduled flight from Curaçao. Further investigation revealed that the cannabis was stuck to her body.

On March 19, 2014, Team Physical Supervision intercepted 1135.5 grams of cocaine. The cocaine was found in a merchant’s goods box, hidden in a thermos, in a warehouse at the Flamingo Airport.

On March 22, 2014, members of the Team Physical Supervision intercepted 318.60 grams of cocaine on Bonaire. The cocaine was found with a 29-year female passenger on a flight from Curaçao. Further investigation showed that the woman had inserted the cocaine internally.

On March 27, 2014 members of the Team Physical Supervision intercepted 10,324.15 EURO on Bonaire. The money was found with a male passenger of 29 years who arrived on a flight from the Netherlands. Further investigation showed that the man had not declared the money to the customs. The money was taken into custody for further investigation. Passengers that enter or leave the Caribbean Netherlands islands with a cash amount of USD 10,000 or more are required to report this to the Customs.

Customs is always attentive to attempts to carry illegal goods in or out the Caribbean Netherlands.
