Winair stops flights to Santo Domingo & Curaçao

The Daily Herald writes that Winair has announced the ending of its service to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic as of May 31 and Willemstad, Curaçao as of May 15, due to disappointing financial revenues on these services. The airline will defer flights to these destinations until they are more viable financially. The disappointing financial results are largely due to aggressive pricing on these routes by Winair’s competitor. The airline is aware of the fact that this will leave only one carrier to these markets, which may contribute to higher fares on these routes. The airline apologises for any inconvenience caused, and it is currently re-accommodating any impacted passengers.
Winair is a Governmentowned regional airline founded in 1961. The airline offers daily connections from its main gateway, Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) and operates five de Havilland Twin-Otter aircrafts and 1 new ATR 500 or 600 series aircraft.
