A group of Aruban Senators visited the island on Monday on a fact finding mission. The purpose of the visit was to get information on the Saba Marine Park and other pending legislation. The Parliament of Aruba has a bill pending which would amend the Ordinance for Nature Conservation to make it possible to issue licenses for spearfishing in designated areas, especially in light of pending legislation to introduce a marine park on that island.
During the visit the parliamentarians met with Marine Park Manager, Kai Wulf who discussed the functioning of the park and other issues related to the conservation management on the island. They also met with Island Governor Jonathan Johnson and Commissioner Bruce Zagers, and were able to talk about areas of mutual concern and interest including energy, environmental affairs and constitutional matters.
The parliamentarians were impressed with the way the island had developed itself in a sustainable manner. They also mentioned that it was in the best interest for the islands to continue to build and maintain relationships as partners in the kingdom.
