The Daily Herald writes that all policemen of the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force walked out of the police stations on Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba at 3:15pm on Friday in protest of the changes to the harmonisation of salaries and benefits. At the same time as they walked on Saba and Statia, their colleagues on Bonaire marched from the police station to the offices of Government Service Caribbean Netherlands, which is a 15-minute walk.
One of the policemen s said their colleagues in Bonaire handed over a letter of grievances, in which they requested RCN extra time to call in an expert on behalf of the police to assist in the negotiations concerning the harmonisation of salaries.
The police laid down their duties during 15 minutes. The harmonisation of salaries is not just an issue within the police force, but also affects members of other government services, among which are the Fire Department, Customs and the Tax Office.
