Certification of new job trainers

The Daily Herald reports that new series of two-day Competency Basic Training (CBT) workshops this month have resulted in the certification of several new job trainers, said local adviser and trainer of the Caribbean Netherlands Council for Education and Labour Market ROA-CN Cerissa Steel. She congratulated Saba Reach Foundation’s La- Toya Charles and Vincent Stroom with the completion of their training. Arebella Hassell of Saba Lions Club’s Meals on Wheels and Ginno Romero of the Justice Department’s community service also received their accreditation.
ROA-CN facilitates coordination between vocational education on Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba, and oversees training of on-thejob trainers, who mentor, guide, train and assess vocational students during their internships. The organization is the only institution in the Caribbean Netherlands recognized to accredit local entities for vocational studies and practical training. It also advises the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science on the potential development of vocational training in the region. Saba has 14 recognized companies with the number of certified trainers now raised to 50. In March, Saba job trainers attended the follow-up workshop on “Active Development,” to help them guide students making use of the Personal Development Plan (PDP) and Personal Action Plan (PAP).
Saba Comprehensive School, Sacred Heart School, Saba Reach Foundation, Project Bureau Saba, Satel NV, Bizzy B Bakery, Herbert Electrical, Laura Linzey Day Care, Child Focus Foundation, Saba Conservation Foundation and Ecolodge Resort are among participants on Saba.
Steel noted that from 2015, Saba students are not allowed to intern at companies that are not recognized by ROA-CN. In the meantime, Steel hopes to help train and recognize more companies, so that vocational students have more options in choosing their internships. “Our children are our future and investing in them is investing in Saba,” said Steel.
