Carnival winds down with weekend parades

Two days of weekend parades wound down the 39^th Annual Saba Summer Carnival Festival inside the Carnival Village at the Princess Juliana Sports Field in The Bottom on Saturday and Sunday, writes The Daily Herald.

An extended 14-day schedule of Carnival festivities came to a close starting with a 4:00am Jouvert Morning road march from the Mountain Road in the Windward Side’s English Quarter down to the Carnival Village. The Grand Parade got underway at 4:00pm that afternoon followed by the Last Lap Parade Sunday afternoon and the ceremonial burning of King Momo last night.

Performers over the weekend were the Official Band from St. Maarten for the Jouvert Morning road march. The Small Axe Band from St. Kitts along with Saba’s own Entyce Band led the Grand Parade through the streets of The Bottom that afternoon, and the Nu Vybes Band aka Sugar Band, also from St. Kitts, played during Sunday’s Last Lap Parade.

Three Carnival troupes participated in this year’s Carnival parades. The Jungle Fever Troupe was led by newly crowned Calypso King of Saba Bob Morgan. The troupe sported headdresses and outfits of various colours ranging from blue to green, white, gold and black. The second troupe was Le Freak Productions, where revellers mostly sported sunburst colours of orange, yellow, green and gold. The smallest troupe was the Booze Brothers, modelling themselves after the famous Blue Brothers Band, wearing black hats, sunglasses, ties and white shirts.
