Garbage Fee Saba comes on our electricity bill

The Saba Electric Company has send an email to its clients informing them about a decision of the Island Council.

The letter reads as follows:

As of November 1, 2014 the Garbage Fee Saba will go into effect. The Garbage Fee, which was approved by Island Ordinance in the Island Council meeting of October 3, 2014 is a levy charged on the collection and processing of garbage from households and businesses.

An agreement has been made with SEC to collect this on behalf of Island Government., which will start this month. The monthly fee for households is 9.00 US dollars and for businesses 20.00 US dollars.

Great effort has been made to ensure that all SEC customers are billed correctly. However, if you have any concerns with the monthly Garbage Fee charges on your SEC account, you are requested to bring this to the attention of the Executive Council, who will look into the matter immediately in order to provide the necessary clarification or rectification of the problem.

It is not clear why this message is issued by the Saba Electric Company and not by the Saba Government.
