The newly established Saba Day Committee has released the schedule for the annual festivities. The official program this year begins Friday December 5th with an Ecumenical service in the Sacred Heart Church in The Bottom. This is followed by the official ceremony and reception at the residence of the Island Governor along with some traditional cultural presentations. There will also be a cultural fair which will be hosted at the Carmen Simmons Cultural Complex which will commence at 11:00am. There will also be a softball tournament which will begin at noon.
Later in the afternoon the celebrations move down to the Fort Bay with booths serving some delicious local and international dishes. Entertainment for the night will be Entyce Band, DJ Suppa Kid from St. Maarten and the always popular Small Axe Band out of St. Kitts. The Captains briefing for the wahoo tournament will be held at the Deep End Bar and Restaurant at 6pm. The annual “For the Love of the Catch” Wahoo tournament begins at midnight and ends at 4pm on Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday December 6th, there will be multiple activities. This year the Island Cross Run, from the Airport to the Harbor returns to line up and there will be games for the children at the Johan Cruijff Court beginning at 9:00am which is being organized by the Saba Sports Federation. The softball tournament will continue at noon and target shooting will commence close to the Harbor at 3pm. On Saturday night, entertainment will be provided at the Harbor by Daddy Slim and Crew and “Onyan” from Antigua.
Sunday brings the weekend of celebrations to a close, not before everyone gets one more chance to enjoy themselves. There will be soccer matches at the Johan Cruijff Court beginning at 10am. The Annual Paint ball competition as well as the target shooting competition will take place at the harbor in the afternoon. There are also the traditional favorites such as the Tug of War and the Kite Competition. The evening will bring entertainment from Shotta Sound, Entyce Band and The Rebels band from Statia. The festivities will come to an end at midnight.
The Committee members are Lisette Riley as President, Lisa Hassell as Secretary, Vito Charles as Treasurer, Stanford Johnson and Kebba Woods are members. Oh Please give me a break, the same things over and over, Small Axe Band, and fort bay whole weekend… Does the committee realize it rains every December and when it raisn no one goes tot eh for bay,
the Committee only think of themselves and not the community when they made their so call Attractive program….

sabanbybirth i agree with u the same things over and over cause i hear that is the entertainment the deputy of culture wants. guess who they want they get. talk about having a commite you can manipulate. whos in the driver seat gone drive the car right!. le wee see what will happen next year. change is so needed and who knows change might just come.
is there not a mistake with the names on the committee? is it not so that one person is the president, treasurer and secretary all in one. a one woman show.others just there for fashion.you can fool some of the people sometime but not for as long as you like. keep on proving everyone right .
Congrats to everyone involved! A lot of planning was put into the events and people of all ages seemed to be enjoying themselves. The events are similar each each because they are tradition. Despite the evacuation of St. Maarten airport the committee still managed to get the band to Saba on time by making arrangements for them to be transported on a fishing boat. I witnessed the members of the committee all working as a team and well as the cooperation of many other locals who volunteered their time to make sure everything ran smoothly.
