Christmas tree lighted

The annual lighting of the Christmas tree took place at Eugenius Johnson Centre in Windwardside on Saturday. A great number of attendants were present at the event, which started with a children’s performance of “A Charlie Brown Christ- mas.” This reports The Daily Herald.

Charlie Brown Christmas originally is an animated television special, based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz. Tyler Johnson played the role of Charlie Brown and Lyieshah Peterson put up a convincing Snoopy performance. Ten children performed in the play, which was directed by Dahlia Hassell.
After the play, the crowd gathered outside around the Christmas tree, where Pastor Vernon Liburd of Wesleyan Holiness Church gave his blessings, after which the tree lights were turned on.
A performance by Djembe Drummers of Child Focus followed, led by Guyquade Lavia. According to the Bambara people in Mali, the name “Djembe” comes from a saying, which translates, “Everyone, gather together in peace” and defines the drum’s purpose. Djembe drumming is a new activity started in May. The number of children joining the activity has grown and the group has performed during many public events throughout the year.
A number of Christmas carols were sung, after which Occasionals Band, which exists for more than 40 years, gave its performance. The band provided a pleasing atmosphere, while attendants enjoyed their food and beverages.
Saba Lions Club organised the event and has done so for more than 30 years. As of late, the Lions partnered with Child Focus, which resulted in the evening’s Youth Group Theatre’s performance.
