No pension gap for students of Caribbean Netherlands

See new article on this subject here.

Students of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba who study in the Netherlands, continue in the future to build a pension. The Cabinet has approved a proposal by State Klijnsma of Social Affairs and Employment that is responsible.

Now who is going to study from the Caribbean Netherlands in European Netherlands, is no longer under the general old-age insurance (AOV) BES. About that time, the student builds no AOV BES. Only if he or she also has a job beside still studying in the Netherlands, this person continues to build on AOV.

The government wants to prevent students over the time they spend in the Netherlands create a pension gap. That is why on July 1, 2015 a decision that regulates the students still continue to build AOV BES while they study in the Netherlands.

The system also works in the other direction. People from the Netherlands who are studying  on Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, will not be building AOV BES anymore more. They remain insured under the AOW.
