New medevac helicopter

The new large medevac helicopter made a fly over St. Eustatius before touching down at F.D. Roosevelt Airport on Sunday evening around 7:15. This reports The Daily Herald.

Four persons emerged from the craft that will be used for medical and emergency evacuations from Statia and Saba to St. Maarten.

One of the helicopter pilots explained that the craft is much larger than the previous one and can take one passenger on a stretcher, a nurse and two accompanying family members. In case of an emergency it can take two stretchers, a nurse and one accompanying person. “Two persons would make it a bit too crowded,” the pilot said.

The public on the islands was not happy with the first emergency helicopter. They complained because the craft was too small to allow family members to fly with a patient. The new emergency helicopter has all required medical equipment on board.
