The Daily Herald writes that six new members were inducted into Saba Lions Club International Tuesday evening at Eugenius Johnson Centre in Windwardside.
Prior to Tuesday, there were 34 active Lions and one honorary member on Saba. The newly inducted members are Melisa C.B. Juana, Mary C. Thielman, Glenn Pileo, Joseph Louimaire, Germain Bermane and Malusca A. Baker. The induction was hosted by Hubert Roy Smith and Saba Lions Club President Paula Mayers delivered a speech.
Each new member has a sponsor, an active Lion who introduces the new member to the Club. Lions are encouraged to bring new suitable members to the Club. Lion James F. Wilson has sponsored two new members; Wilson and Thielman. Lions’ Secretary Carl Buncamper introduced Louismaire and Bermane, Harold Levenstone sponsored Baker and Ronaldo Quindoy introduced Pileo. All six new members were invited in September 2014 and were prospective members until Tuesday.
During their trial period, they attended meetings and were active in many fields, such as helping at the Old Age Home, assisting in arts and crafts and during Christmas activities. “We try to bring more young professionals on board. These have to be people with a keen interest to serve and give back to the community,” Buncamper said. The ceremony was performed in Lions Club tradition. Each new member lit a candle, symbolising “a torch of light and hope to the less fortunate whom they serve.”
