Saba Festival Foundation (SFF) has held an official judging on Tuesday to choose the slogan for Saba Carnival 2015, writes The Daily Herald. The winner of the slogan contest will be selected during the first fundraiser to be held at the end of this month.
The judges’ panel consisted of Carmen Simmons, who is one of the founders of Saba Carnival, and of Director of Saba Tourism Glenn Holm, Rose Zagers, Kelly Johnson and former Carnival queen Elsa Peterson- Heyliger. They gathered at the Government Building in The Bottom on Tuesday morning to each choose their top 5 slogans out of a total of 28 submitted entries. Of these five top selections a final top-three was crafted and then the winning slogan was chosen.
During the first fundraiser at the end of May the winning slogan will be made public. Also the person who submitted the winning slogan will be announced and he or she will receive a free pass to all Carnival events of 2015.
Because this year marks the 40th anniversary of Saba Carnival more attention will be given to the past and to previous organisers. “It is not an easy task to organise a successful Carnival festival and we have to honour our predecessors and give them prominent attention this year,” said SFF secretary Vito Charles. According to Charles, the slogan that was chosen this year is regarded by all judges as the most representable. SFF is trying its best to give something for everyone this year by contacting all the best bands in the Caribbean.
A Carnival schedule will be released later this week. The 2015 Saba Carnival will be held July 27-August 7, with two pre- Carnival days to be held before the festivities officially kick off.
