Five students receive maintenance certificate

Employment Opportunities Saba (EOS) handed out certificates of completion for the Basic Technical Maintenance Assistant course, writes The Daily Herald.

Acting Island Governor Franklin Wilson handed out certificates to five graduates on Tuesday. During five months, from February 2 to June 24, the five received training required to certify them in eight different technical levels.

Graduates Jevon Weeks, Aneuris Hassell, Keenan Johnson, Daniel Tejeda de Los Santos and Jean Curtis Wilson are now all certified in welding, basic maintenance, basic electrical installation, plumbing, general safety, tiling, carpentry and block laying.

Saba Comprehensive School Director Anton Hermans made teachers and school facilities available.

EOS programme leader Ginno Romero said he was very proud of the graduates he coached and guided throughout these months. “The participants showed determination and they now have a better chance of getting further in their jobs,” Romero said.

He started his career on Saba three years ago with guidance of individuals who were sentenced by the court to perform community service. In September 2014, Romero started with the EOS programme, which will last for two years. Initially, he started out with 11 candidates, nine of whom are still in the programme.

Funded by the Dutch government, EOS focuses on guiding young individuals in a work atmosphere, which is to create more stability and a prosperous future.
